Course overview

This CommScope NETCONNECT course is approximately 75% hands-on, and prepares the individual to handle the many design criteria decisions associated with premises cabling systems. The student will progress through a step-by-step process from the initial design analysis through the final project presentation. There is an emphasis on the design parameters and guidelines of the ANSI/TIA and ISO/IEC standards, and the decisions that the designer has to make regarding network platforms and technologies, cabling architectures, and media selection.

Objectives

Objectives

  • Learn what information gathering is necessary at the project offset
  • Understand the standards that influence and dictate design
  • Make clear the steps required in a successful infrastructure design project
  • Practice network design through a number of real world design projects and workshops
  • Successfully present your design as part of small work groups
  • Gain confidence and skills from the focus on design quality and innovative design choices

Audience

  • Designers, Consultants and experienced installers involved in Premises Cabling project planning, implementation and certification and are designing with the CommScope NETCONNECT premises solution and who prefer to take a class rather than the Online SP3000 version of the ACT III course. (May not be available in all regions).
Prerequisites

Prerequisities for this course

  • Ideally students will have had some exposure to the enterprise infrastructure market but this is not mandatory.

Course Outline

Course outline

Information Gathering & Design Analysis

  • Identify how and where to gather information and obtain customer expectations, and how to analyze the data.
  • Describe the impact that customer expectations may have upon architectural and media selection decisions.

Telecommunications Infrastructure

  • List and describe the purpose of the standards organizations
  • Describe the elements of the cabling system and how they fit into the overall design plan.

Placement of Spaces

  • Describe the requirements and guidelines for the placement of spaces, including Telecommunications Outlets, Telecommunications Rooms, and
    Equipment Rooms.
  • Determine the placement of the elements on a typical floor plan blueprint.

Horizontal Cabling & Pathways

  • Review the parameters, specifications and design guidelines for the Horizontal cabling system, including:
    • Topology
    • Media requirements
    • Connector requirements
    • Telecommunications Outlet and Telecommunications Room connectivity
    • Cabling distances
    • Installation/cabling practices
    • Horizontal pathways
    • Provide a horizontal cabling solution to an actual design project.

Backbone Cabling & Pathways

  • Review the parameters, specifications and design guidelines for the Backbone cabling system, including:
    • Topology
    • Media requirements
    • Connector requirements
    • Cabling distances

Administration and Grounding & Bonding

  • Describe the basic principles of Administration and the Grounding and Bonding of telecommunications cabling systems.
  • Apply these principles to the previous actual design solution.

Centralized Cabling Architecture

  • Describe the implementation, advantages, and requirements of a Centralized Optical Fiber Cabling implementation according to the standards.
  • Provide a Centralized Optical Fiber Cabling solution to an actual design project.

Open Office Architecture

  • Describe the implementation, advantages, and requirements of an Open Office (Zone) Cabling implementation according to the standards.
  • Provide an Open Office Cabling solution to an actual design project.
